Showerthought: People still think you need a ton of money to start this life

Honestly, I see so many posts from folks who think you need a $3k laptop and a Bali villa. I got going with a $500 refurbished Thinkpad and a cheap room in Chiang Mai for my first 6 months. What's one thing you started with that people think is 'essential' but really isn't?

Totally feel you, @taraj11. Switched to instant last month and my wallet is thanking me. I even bought one of those big jars of generic granules from the discount store. My old routine was a fancy latte almost every day, which really adds up. Now I just microwave some water and stir. It's not the same, but it gets the job done.
