A coworker told me my ramps were too steep and I had to rethink my work
I build temporary wheelchair ramps for events around Portland. Some guy in a chair told me my 1:8 slope was fine for him but most people struggle. He showed me the ADA standard is 1:12, which is way gentler. Now I use that ratio even for short rises and it takes longer to build but more people can use them. Has anyone else had to unlearn what they thought was good enough for accessibility?

Tbh same thing happened to me when I redid my front steps and had to tear them out and start over.

Honestly I gotta push back here. 1:8 works fine for a lot of people and making everything 1:12 is just overkill that adds time and materials for no good reason. Not every ramp needs to be built for the worst case scenario.
