Chain lube debate: wet vs dry, but which one actually lasts in rain?

I ran wet lube all spring and it gummed up my drivetrain after 3 rides in the city. Switched to dry lube, but that vanished after one downpour near the river path. Seen a couple of folks swear by mixing them, others say that's heresy. Anyone else notice a real difference in how long either holds up in actual wet conditions versus just light drizzle? What's your call for daily commuting in a place like Portland?
