Pro tip: thought I needed new brake pads but a dime showed me I was dead wrong
For like a year I was swapping pads every 3 weeks on my commuter, thinking my rims were just shot. Then a guy at the co-op in Portland held a dime against the pad and said if the wear line is thinner than the coin, replace it, and mine was way past that. So now I'm stuck between two camps: the coin trick crowd who say it's all you need, and the folks who swear you have to pull the pads and check the metal backing. Which side are you on?
