Rant: I thought those copper slug barriers were nonsense, then the earwigs ate my prize zinnias
Last June I planted 8 zinnia starts along the fence and within a week something had chewed every single one down to a stem. I blamed slugs. My neighbor Dale kept saying to try the copper tape trick with the sticky backing, the stuff you find near the garden section at Ace. I told him it was a gimmick. He gave me a roll anyway.
I wrapped two raised beds with it and left the other two alone. Three weeks later the bare beds were stripped again and the copper ones were untouched. Not one bite. I don't know if it's the shock or the texture but something about it works.
Now I want to try it on my hostas but I'm worried about the cost. A 30 foot roll was $14 and I'd need a lot more. Anyone here tried it on bigger beds, and did it hold up after a couple rains?
