I thought sealing EVA foam with heat was a myth, then I hit a scrap piece with a heat gun for 6 seconds
I was ready to give up on foam armor after my third helmet cracked along the brow line last month in my garage in Tucson. Then I grabbed a scrap of 5mm EVA, waved a $20 heat gun over it for maybe 6 seconds, and the surface went from porous and grippy to this smooth sealed skin that took paint without soaking up half the can. Has anyone else noticed the difference depends on how far you hold the gun, or am I just burning my foam at the wrong distance?
