Does hitting a high number actually mean you're getting better, or is it just repetition for its own sake? I was over here pressing foam pieces together with my bare hands like a caveman, and this kid at a con in Austin just scooped the excess glue with a stick and used it as a little spatula to smooth the seam. Took me 3 builds to realize I was burning myself for no reason, so now I keep a stack of those cheap craft sticks on my desk. Last weekend at Fan Expo, I was securing the edges of my new visor and the glue gun tip touched the PETG plastic for maybe two seconds. The whole front warped and bubbled in this ugly wave, looked like a melted soda bottle. I had to cut it out and rebuild the faceplate with a sheet of clear acrylic, cost me an extra $28 and four hours in the hotel room. Has anyone else had adhesives react badly with clear thermoplastics, or should I just stick to epoxy resin from now on?

I was at Rose City Comic Con last weekend and this one cosplayer had a full Worgen mask made from EVA foam. It had fur texture carved right into the foam and the jaw could actually open and close with a hidden hinge inside. The maker told me he used a heat gun on low for over 20 minutes just to get the muzzle shape right. I have been trying to figure out how to do moving parts on my own builds for months. Does anyone have a good tutorial for adding a hinge mechanism like that without making the whole thing too heavy to wear?

I left a half-finished helmet in my trunk during a 90 degree day. Came back from work and the thing was warped into a wavy mess. The contact cement had also re-activated in spots and made everything sticky. I had to scrap 15 hours of work. If you're working with foam this summer, bring your props inside or at least put them in a cooler. Has anyone else ruined a project from heat exposure?
