My dad's old oak desk had a cable tray cut into it, and I spent 2 years ignoring his advice
When I moved into my first apartment in Cleveland, my dad gave me his old oak desk and pointed at a channel he'd routed underneath for cables back in 1994. I thought it looked ugly and just zip tied everything to the back legs like a normal person. After 2 years of crawling under there every time I swapped a monitor, I finally cut my own tray with a $30 router and it took about 40 minutes. Cables basically disappeared and I stopped yanking my keyboard off the desk by accident. Now I want to add one to my work bench too, has anyone routed a tray into a cheaper particle board top without it falling apart?
