Warning: a fight at a Portland tournament over button swaps made me rethink who should open a controller
I was at a small Smash meetup in Portland two Saturdays ago and watched two guys almost throw hands over a modded GameCube controller. One guy said he paid $140 for it with swapped buttons and a new stick, and the other guy popped it open right there and found a cracked solder joint on the left stick. Half the room said the buyer should have opened it before paying, the other half said sellers on these forums should just be honest about what is inside. I get both sides, idk, I have bought modded pads that worked fine for 2 years and one that died in 3 days. My view is you should always ask for a photo of the board before money changes hands, but a lot of people say that kills the vibe and makes you look like a jerk. Where do you all land on this, is cracking it open before you pay normal now or is that rude?
