A buddy's offhand remark about my solder joints hit me harder than I expected

I was over at a friend's place last Saturday helping him troubleshoot a fuzz pedal he'd built, and he pointed at one of my joints and said 'you're not really tinning that before you go in, are you?' It wasn't even a criticism, just a quick observation, but it stuck with me all night. I've been building pedals for like 4 years now, probably a dozen full builds plus repairs, and nobody ever said anything about my technique before. I went home and looked at my last few boards under a magnifier and yeah, my joints were dull and kinda balled up on top instead of flowing through. He showed me his method, which is just a tiny bit more prep on the wire and the pad before you even touch the iron, and it took me maybe 20 minutes to redo one whole board this morning. It's wild how one small habit can make everything cleaner and honestly quieter too. Has anyone else had a random comment from a friend totally reset how you do something basic?

Now I tell everyone to watch their tip and tin everything twice, even if they've been at it for years.
