TIL my DIY fuzz pedal hummed for 3 weeks because of one tiny grounding mistake
I built a fuzz pedal on vero board back in March and it worked fine on my bench, but the second I put it in the enclosure it started humming like crazy. I spent almost 3 weeks swapping cables, adding filter caps, and even rebuilding the whole audio path twice with no luck. Turns out my input jack was grounding to the enclosure through the paint, and once I scraped a small bare spot under the jack washer the hum vanished in about 10 seconds. I felt so dumb, all that time wasted on a paint layer. Has anyone else chased a noise gremlin that turned out to be something that simple?
