The $9 thrift store sander that outlasted my $140 one
Picked up a beat-up Ryobi belt sander for nine bucks at a garage sale in Austin and it's still running smooth after 6 months, while my fancy new one threw its belt on the second use, anyone else had a junker that secretly outperforms the showroom stuff?

Man, the "beat-up Ryobi" thing hit home for me. My dad gave me this ancient Craftsman drill that's got more duct tape than plastic on the handle, and it's outdrilled every new DeWalt I've ever bought. The fancy one has a chuck that slips like crazy if you look at it wrong, but the junker just keeps going, no matter how much I abuse it. I even dropped it off a ladder once and it barely scratched the paint. Honestly, I think they just don't make em like they used to, and my cheap sander story is basically the same as yours.
