Rant: guy at the supply shop said my emulsion was the problem, not my exposure time
I been burning screens at home for about a year and kept losing fine detail on my halftones, like the little dots in the shading would just wash right out no matter how long I let the light hit it. I figured I needed a stronger bulb or a bigger setup so I was about to drop $90 on a new UV light when the guy at the screen supply shop on 5th asked me what emulsion I was using. I told him the cheap purple stuff and he just shook his head and said that was my whole problem, the cheap stuff has low solids so it can't hold a dot. I argued with him for a minute because I didn't want to hear it but he pulled out two coated screens side by side under the same bulb and the difference was not even close. Switched to a dual cure and my halftones came out clean on the first try, I didn't change my light or my times at all. So now I'm stuck eating crow because I spent months blaming my exposure setup when it was a $12 bottle of emulsion the whole time. What emulsion are you all running, and did anyone else burn a bunch of cash on gear before someone just told them it was the coating?
Wait the guy just had two coated screens sitting there ready to show you? That part is wild to me. Like he knew this exact fight was coming and had the proof prepped in the back. A $12 bottle being the whole fix after a year of losing dots is nuts. I would be so mad at myself, but also relieved it wasn't the light. Low solids making sense now that I hear it said out loud. Nobody tells beginners this stuff, they just sell you a bigger bulb.
