A guy at a flea market in Ohio told me his lathe cuts at 78 rpm, and I did not know home setups went that fast

I always figured home cutting was stuck around 33 or 45, but he showed me a 10 inch blank he cut at 78 and the grooves looked way tighter. Does anyone here actually cut at 78, or is that just a weird one off thing?
