Showerthought: my first test cut on a thrift store turntable at 2am ate the stylus and I just sat there
Hooked up a $15 goodwill turntable to my little lathe setup in the garage last Tuesday and tried cutting a test groove into a blank dubplate, and about halfway through the needle skipped and scraped the whole side. I pulled the power right away, unplugged everything, and just stared at the ruined plate for a minute before calling it a night. Ended up ordering a carbide cutting stylus from a guy on a forum in Austin for $60, which stings on a hobby budget. Has anyone here got a cheap way to practice cuts before you burn a real blank?
