inHot take: I think we're overdoing the 'native plants only' rule for bird habitats
Wait, she actually said "basically useless"? That's wild. My neighbor has a huge patch of non-native sunflowers and the goldfinches go crazy for the seeds every fall. The native-only rule feels like it ignores what birds actually do in real yards.

inMy $40 'bear proof' food bag was a total joke
Ugh, that's the worst feeling. Those metal liner bags are basically just for smell, not actual claws. In the Smokies, you really need a hard-sided bear canister. Rangers often require them anyway. It's a pain to carry, but nothing gets into those things. I use a BearVault brand one and just accept the extra weight. What kind of trips are you usually doing?

inBack in the day, I bought a $150 'all weather' cycling jacket that wasn't.
A hundred and fifty dollars for a jacket that just traps your own sweat is brutal. I would have been so mad after that first soggy ride home. It's crazy how the expensive stuff sometimes works worse than the cheap layers you already trust. That kind of disappointment makes you really careful about buying gear again.

inAm I the only one who learned more from fixing broken code than from clean examples?
Beginners need solid foundations to build on, and debugging a mess just teaches you how to fix that one mess. Clean examples show you the right way to do things from the start, so you don't pick up bad habits. Spending an hour on a missing bracket is a huge waste of time when you could be learning new concepts instead. That frustration early on might make someone quit before they even get going.

inPro tip: Ice cubes on a sheet pan for bread crust
Seems like a lot of fuss over crust color. Home bread should taste good, not just look fancy. Probably not worth the extra hassle.
