Paid $45 for a drafting stool with a backrest and my lower back finally quit yelling at me
I do a lot of commercial work at a standing desk setup, and for about eight months I was using one of those cheap backless stools I grabbed for like $20 at a big box store. By hour three of a big plan set my lower back would be killing me and I'd start making dumb mistakes on my elevations. So I finally caved and got a drafting stool with an adjustable foot ring and a real backrest for $45 off the usual online place, and honestly it fixed the whole problem. The foot ring matters more than I thought because it keeps your thighs level instead of letting your legs dangle, which was putting all the strain on my low back. I also bumped the seat up a couple inches so I'm sitting higher over the board and it's way easier to keep my shoulders relaxed while I line weight. Two months in and I've stopped standing up every twenty minutes to stretch, which used to wreck my focus. Curious what the rest of you use for long drafting sessions, is a real drafting chair worth it or do you just stand the whole time?
