Spent 5 hours re-doing a hatch pattern because I drew on the wrong layer

Got a revised floor plan from the architect on Monday and somehow blocked in a whole stairwell on the XREF layer, so when I plotted it the hatch covered everything in gray. My senior drafter walked by, laughed, and said 'that's a bold design choice' before I even noticed. Anyone else ever waste half a day because of a layer mix-up that was right in front of you?
