Bought a $900 backup pump after a close call, now I sleep better on night shifts

Last month on the Chattahoochee my main hydraulic pump started whining around 2 AM and I had to babysit it for six hours with a pressure gauge and prayer. I dropped $900 on a rebuilt spare the next week, which felt like burning cash until my buddy's unit went down Sunday and he sat idle for two days waiting on parts. Anyone else keep a full spare pump on hand, or am I just paranoid about downtime?
