Dropped $340 on a thermal label printer last year and I'm still not sure if it saved me or scammed me
Six months back I got tired of taping printed labels to boxes and bought a Rollo thermal printer for around $340 with the starter roll of 4x6 labels, and now I honestly can't tell if it was smart money or a trap. On one side, I'm shipping about 40 packages a week out of my garage in Boise and I've stopped buying ink, stopped fighting my laser printer at 11pm, and my tape and paper costs dropped maybe $25 a month because I'm not printing on half sheets anymore. On the other side, I did the math and that's close to 14 months just to break even, the labels still cost money, and I'm locked into one size unless I buy more rolls. I've got a buddy who swears his $90 used Zebra off Facebook Marketplace does the exact same thing, and part of me thinks I paid for the shiny new box and the app. But the speed is real, I can print a label in 2 seconds instead of fighting a paper jam, and during the December rush that alone felt worth it. So I'm stuck between 'best money I ever spent' and 'I got played by good marketing' and I want to hear from people who went cheaper or went bigger. Did you regret your printer, or did a cheap one bite you later?
