I finally checked out that ReStore on 118 Ave and wow the tile selection is wild

I needed some backsplash tile for a small bathroom reno and figured I'd save a few bucks at the Habitat ReStore. Honestly I wasn't expecting much but they had like 20 different boxes of subway tile and some really cool glass mosaics for like 3 bucks a square foot. The catch is most of them were clearly from someone's half finished project so you need to dig through and check for broken pieces and make sure you have enough. I ended up finding a full box of white 3x6 which would've been 40 bucks at Home Depot but I paid 12. The whole place is messy and you gotta take your time but it beats paying full price. Has anyone else had luck scoring good tile there or is it usually a bust?

I gotta disagree with @ray_carr here... the whole point of a ReStore is you're willing to put in the work for the deal. That glass mosaic find for 3 bucks a foot sounds like a steal if you're patient enough to sort through it. Yeah you might end up with some chipped pieces but that's why you actually look before you buy instead of just grabbing random boxes.

The 118 Ave ReStore is a complete gamble from my experience. I went there for a backsplash too and found three boxes of tile that looked okay until I got home and half of them were chipped or had dried mortar on the edges. You got lucky with that full box of 3x6, but most of the time you're sorting through leftover junk from someone's failed DIY project. I think a lot of people walk in there expecting a steal and end up spending more time digging for something usable than it's worth. Would you really trust a random box of glass mosaic to match up without having spare pieces from the same dye lot? I'd rather pay the extra 20 bucks at Home Depot and not have to worry about running out of matching tile halfway through the job.
