inJust realized I've been using the wrong hand signals for years after a close call on a job site in Denver
Screwed up something similar myself a few years back. I was signaling for a swing left on a tight alleyway and the operator kept going right, almost took out a parked forklift. Turns out I had my left and right mixed up because I was facing him instead of facing the load like you're supposed to. Felt about two inches tall when the foreman pulled out the laminated card from his wallet and showed me in front of everyone. Still wake up sweating about that one sometimes.

inThat 2018 review that made me rethink everything I wrote
Oh man, I once wrote a five-word review that got more replies than a full paragraph I'd spent 20 minutes on. Do you find the short ones just naturally catch more eyes or is it random?

inWhy I'll never use free rebar stakes again after losing $160
Wait, do you really think rust would cause that kind of cracking without you seeing it? I've used rebar for years and I swear by it, but I think the issue is more about quality of the steel than storage. The stuff from big box stores now is just cheap and brittle, you know? I've had rebar that sat in a wet shed for two seasons and held up fine, then another batch that looked perfect and snapped right away. @the_emma I'd say your buddy's story is more about bad luck with the metal itself than the damp garage. Coated stakes are fine for light duty, but for a big canvas tent I'd take good rebar any day over those.

inHot take: most guys are over-torquing their oil drain plugs
Oh man, your chart trick is genius and I say that as someone who literally wrote the specs on my arm in sharpie once and then accidentally washed it off before finishing the job. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like half the stripped pans I see are from people who think "German torque" means "gutentight" instead of actually checking the number. I tried the "feel it out" method one time on my old Civic and ended up having to drill out the plug because I went full gorilla mode on it. Your tape-on-the-box method sounds way smarter than my arm tattoo approach, honestly.

inMy password manager locked me out after a failed update on Sunday morning
That "local vault file got corrupted" part hit close to home because I used to think password managers were basically bulletproof but last year mine did the same thing after a bad sync and I lost everything including some old work logins. I spent two days digging through backups and finally found that most managers keep a backup copy hidden in the app data folder that you can manually rename and import. On my end I got lucky and found a cached version from a week earlier but it made me paranoid enough to start exporting a plain text backup every few months.
