Just stripped my 1950s bungalow's original fir floors with a random orbital sander
Over 2 weekends, I took them from dull orange shellac to a light honey tone using 36 grit then 80 grit. Did anyone else find the dust control nearly impossible no matter how good your vacuum setup is?

My buddy tried sanding his own floors last year and said the dust got into literally everything... he found it in his coffee cup three rooms away three days later. He finally gave up on the vacuum and just opened all the windows with a box fan blowing out.

I mean, 80% of the dust issue is probably just bad sealing and not using the right vacuum. You can rent a floor sander with a proper dust bag and run a Shop-Vac with a HEPA filter hooked right up to it, and that cuts the mess by a lot. Maybe his buddy skipped taping off doorways or using plastic sheeting, which is basically asking for dust to get everywhere. Idk, I've done three rooms in my own house with that setup and never found dust in my coffee.
