Overheard a contractor say the cold warps wood differently here

I was picking up drywall mud at Home Depot on the south side and two guys were talking about how Edmonton's freeze-thaw cycles are harder on door frames than anywhere they've worked. They said a cheap moisture meter, like the $40 pin type, saves them more callbacks than any fancy tool. Anyone else notice their interior doors sticking after the January cold snap?

That cheap moisture meter thing is wild to me. I've seen guys spend thousands on laser levels and digital stud finders, but a $40 pin meter is what actually saves their ass? Guess it makes sense though, wood here does some weird stuff in January. My pantry door was rubbing so bad last month I thought the house was settling, but it fixed itself after a few warm days.
