Picked up a used planer from Kijiji and got way more than I bargained for

Found a DeWalt 735 on Kijiji last week for $400, seemed like a steal until I got it home and found the cutter head was jammed with old glue and the feed roller was slipping. Spent Saturday taking it apart, cleaned everything with mineral spirits and replaced the rubber roller with a part from Amazon ($35). Anyone else ever buy a used tool that turned into a bigger project than the reno itself?

Man that's always the risk with used gear, isn't it? In my experience, the hidden problems sometimes teach you more about the tool than buying new ever would. Your mileage may vary, but I'd rather fix a few things on a bargain than pay full retail and still have to deal with factory issues.

Yeah @robinson.paul you're spot on about that. I picked up an old table saw last year that had a bent arbor flange, and sorting that out taught me more about blade alignment than any YouTube video ever did lol. Plus you get that satisfaction of knowing every bolt and screw inside out once you're done fixing it up. Factory issues are a whole different headache too, at least with used gear you know exactly what you're dealing with upfront.
