Was in a hotel in Chicago and saw they had a traction elevator with the motor room in the basement, not the roof. Is that a better design or just a space thing?

Honestly who even notices that stuff. It's just an elevator, gets you from floor to floor. Probably just how the building fit the machinery in. Not like it changes your ride.
