My grandma's pie crust recipe got me yelled at by a stranger at Church
I was at a potluck in Tulsa last Sunday. An older lady saw my pie and asked where I got the recipe. I told her it was my grandma's secret passed down. She got real mad and said I was stealing family recipes from her aunt who lived in the same town. Turned out our grandmas were neighbors and shared the same recipe 50 years ago. Has anyone else had a family recipe cause drama like that?

Hold your horses here. That lady had a point, even if she was a bit dramatic about it. Those pie recipes from Oklahoma grandmas in the 1950s were basically public domain at the church potluck level. If your grandma and her aunt lived on the same block and swapped recipes over the fence, then calling it a "secret passed down" sounds like you're claiming ownership of something half the town already knew. You basically stumbled into a 50 year old feud over lard and flour ratios and acted surprised when someone called you out. Next time just say "I found it online" and save yourself the drama.

Honestly that whole situation sounds exhausting, I feel bad for whoever posted it cause they probably had no idea about the old feud. Its wild how recipes can stir up that much drama between families, especially when everyone's just trying to bake a decent pie. Hope they can laugh about it someday though, cause getting yelled at over lard ratios is pretty funny in hindsight.
