My grandma's pie crust turned to dust at our family reunion in Boise

I was making her famous apple pie for 20 people when the dough just crumbled apart in my hands, probably because our new kitchen is so dry. I had to quickly mix in some extra cold water and roll it out before anyone noticed the mess. Has anyone else had a family recipe fail because of a change in your home's climate?

Gravy in that dry heat is a real gamble. You almost need to keep the roux a bit loose before adding stock, because it thickens up so fast out there. A splash of extra warm broth at the end can sometimes bring it back from the brink.
