I finally figured out why my stir fry was always soggy after 3 years of making it

I've been making stir fry every Tuesday for like 3 years now and it always came out kind of wet and limp. Last week I was watching a cooking video from some lady in Chicago and she said most people overcrowd their pan. I always dumped all my veggies in at once because I thought it saved time. Turns out that steams everything instead of searing it. I tried doing it her way this Tuesday where I cooked the chicken first then pulled it out then did the veggies in small batches. The difference was night and day the broccoli actually had some char on it and the sauce didn't just turn into soup. Has anyone else been making this same mistake with their weeknight dinners?

TIL you can reclaim screens with oven cleaner if you're out of chemicals

Was at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore last weekend and this old timer saw me grabbing some burnt out screens. He told me just spray em with Easy Off (the yellow can) and let em sit for 10 minutes. Tried it on a mesh I thought was ruined from a bad exposure. Worked like a charm. Anyone else got weird household stuff that works for reclaiming?

Wasted $300 on a fancy wheelchair cushion that did nothing for my pressure sores

I bought this high-end air cushion online last month thinking it would solve my sitting pain. After three days of trying different settings, my butt was still sore and I got a new pressure mark. Turns out a simple foam wedge from my local medical supply store for $40 works way better for me. Has anyone else found that expensive gear sometimes just isnt the fix?

Passed 10,000 bricks laid on that apartment complex job

I've been working on a 4 story building in downtown Portland since February, and yesterday I hit 10,000 bricks laid just on this one job. It kind of surprised me because I never keep count usually, but my foreman mentioned it when we were unloading the last pallet. Has anyone else hit a number like that and felt a little proud of the grind?

Am I the only one who had an air fryer disaster week?

Last Tuesday I tried making chicken wings and they came out like hockey pucks. Set the timer for 25 minutes at 400 like the recipe said and they were burnt to a crisp. Then Friday I made sweet potato fries and they were soggy in the middle. Maybe it's just my machine but I've had three bad batches this week and I'm ready to throw the whole thing out. Has anyone else hit a rough patch like this where nothing turns out right?

My buddy told me to skip tutorials and just build something, worst advice ever

My friend Jake who works at a startup in Austin said I should stop watching tutorials and just jump into a project head first. I spent 3 whole weekends trying to make a to-do list app in React and ended up with so many bugs I just gave up. Turns out I was missing basic JavaScript stuff like array methods and event handling. Has anyone else been burned by the 'just build something' advice when you were brand new?

PSA: Stop making your monthly spreads so pretty they're useless

I see it all over Instagram and Pinterest. People spend hours on calligraphy and doodles. Then they run out of space for actual tasks by day 10. A $5 notebook is fine if you actually use it. Anyone else ditch the fancy layouts for something simpler?

The result was a 500-word short story that actually landed me a small publication credit on a indie zine. Ran into an old barista who called me out on my pour over habit

I was at a cafe in Portland last Saturday. Guy I used to work with behind the bar walked up and said my pour over routine was overcomplicating things. He pointed out I was chasing a perfect brew instead of just enjoying the coffee. Made me think about how much time I spend fiddling with grind size and water temp. Anyone else ever have someone throw a mirror up to your coffee hobby?

Hit a dryer vent clog the other day that made me rethink my whole approach

Last Tuesday I got a call about a dryer taking forever to dry. I pulled the vent cover outside and barely any air came through. So I dug out my drill and the brush kit I got from a supply house in Nashville about 3 years ago. After running it through I pulled out a wad of lint the size of a football. Made me wonder how many of these jobs I've been overcomplicating when just cleaning the vent line would solve it. Anyone else find simple fixes like this getting pushed aside for replacing parts?
