My sister-in-law said my grandma's pie crust was 'too fussy' and it got me heated

We were making apple pie at her place in Spokane last weekend, and she watched me cut the butter into the flour with a fork. She said, 'That's way too much work, just use a food processor for 30 seconds.' I told her the hand-mixing keeps the butter cold and makes it flaky, which is the whole point. She shrugged and said the taste was the same either way. Has anyone else had a family cooking method someone called outdated?

That gravy story is spot on. My cousin tried to tell me her boxed stuffing was just as good as my mom's recipe that uses real cornbread and sausage. She said the box was faster and "you can't tell once it's all mushy on the plate." I was so annoyed. Some people just don't get that the work is part of what makes it taste right.

My buddy's uncle got into it with his wife over gravy. She wanted to use the jar stuff for Thanksgiving, and he spent like two hours making it from the turkey drippings, the whole deal. She said it was a waste of a good afternoon for something that gets poured over everything in two minutes. He was so mad he barely talked through dessert.
