When my coworker shared our family stew recipe as her own on social media

I brought my grandma's beef stew to a work potluck last Friday. A coworker kept asking for the recipe, so I gave it to her, but then she put it online as her own family secret. What do you do when someone steals your recipe like that?

Honestly, I'd just comment right on her post. Something simple like "So glad you loved my grandma's stew! It's a family favorite." Puts the truth out there without a big fight. Next time someone asks, just tell them it's a secret. Learned that lesson the hard way after a similar thing with my mom's cornbread. If she gets mad, that's her problem. You can also bring something store bought to the next potluck.

Yeah that cornbread thing rings true. Had a coworker pass off my lentil soup as her mom's recipe last winter. I just brought in the printed recipe next day, highlighted my name on top, left it by the coffee pot. She got the message. Never said a word about it after that.

Grace's idea to comment is good, but I'd take it a step further. Post a photo of your own with the recipe card, making sure your grandma's handwriting is visible. That way the proof is right there for everyone to see, and she can't really argue with it. It settles the whole thing without you having to say much at all.
