Watched a guy in Oklahoma spend 20 minutes sanding a hoof wall smooth like he was finishing a table

He kept saying the shoe would just glue on better if the surface was glass, but you're burning up the hoof capsule and taking off all the natural seal, so has anyone actually seen that method hold past a week?

Man that's rough to watch. Gotta feel for the horse, standing there while someone takes a power tool to its feet like it's a piece of furniture. That natural seal is there for a reason, and once it's gone, moisture and bacteria just waltz right in. Had a buddy try this same smooth hoof glue trick on a trail horse, and the shoe popped off before the end of a weekend ride. A few days of wet grass and mud was all it took to undo all that sanding.

Oh man, I mean I get being careful but isn't this like getting worked up over nothing @davis.gavin? We sand our own nails all the time and they don't fall off, a horse's hoof grows out and gets trimmed every few weeks anyway.
