Had a gate hinge shear clean off a 6-foot cedar fence in a windstorm yesterday.
The client's kid said it sounded like a gunshot. What's your go-to heavy-duty hinge for high-wind areas?

Used to swear by strap hinges until a storm took out my whole gate. Now I only use heavy duty T-hinges with through-bolts, not screws. That extra steel and a solid bolt going all the way through the post makes a huge difference.

Seriously? A whole gate from one storm? I've had strap hinges on my backyard gate for like ten years and it's fine, even with our crazy wind. Maybe the post was rotten or the screws were too short. Seems like overkill to go full T-hinge unless you're hanging a castle door.
