My emergency fund saved me from a $900 car repair last month
The transmission in my old Civic started making a grinding noise on my way home from a cleaning job. I took it to a shop in Tacoma and they said the repair would be $900. I had to pay it right then to get my car back. That money came straight from the emergency fund I started putting $50 into every paycheck two years ago. It felt bad to see the balance drop, but I didn't have to put it on a credit card. Has anyone else had to use their emergency fund for something that wasn't a job loss?

You mentioned putting $50 from every paycheck into that fund for two years. Did you ever feel tempted to stop or use that money for something else while you were building it up? I had to fight that urge a lot at the start, like when I wanted a new TV but knew I should leave the fund alone.

My buddy's emergency fund covered a surprise vet bill when his dog ate a sock. He was bummed to spend it, but having that cash meant no payment plan stress. What was the hardest part about rebuilding your fund after using it?
