Spent $400 on a home energy audit and it was the best money I ever wasted

I was sure it was a scam, but my utility bill was getting crazy. The guy came out, did a blower door test, and found a huge air leak in my attic I never knew about. Fixing it cost about $150 in materials and a weekend of my time. My heating bill dropped by almost 30% this past winter. Has anyone else done one of these and found a different problem that saved them money?

Yeah, that blower door test is wild. I mean, they found a leak around my whole fireplace that was basically just pumping heat outside. Sealed it up with some special caulk and it made a huge difference. It's crazy how you can just be losing money through these tiny cracks you'd never even see.

My audit guy found a leak so bad it was basically an open window. After hearing about @margaret99's fireplace, I'm starting to think our houses are just politely suggesting we move outside. Spent fifty bucks on spray foam and now my furnace actually gets a day off.
