My $40 office chair from a garage sale... big mistake.

I mean, I thought I was being smart saving money for my first real job. Bought this beat up office chair for $40 from some guy off Craigslist. After two weeks, my back was killing me and I could barely focus at my desk. Ended up spending $200 on a proper chair from Staples. Has anyone else cheap out on something for their first job and totally regret it?

$40 isn't bad for an office chair though.

I grabbed a used Steelcase chair for $30 off Facebook Marketplace a few years back, and it's still going strong. @tyler_hall9 you're right that $40 is a solid deal, but make sure you test it out first if you can. One thing I learned is that even cheap chairs can last forever if the frame is metal. Also check the gas cylinder before you buy, because replacing those parts can cost more than the chair itself.
