Hit 300 board feet of salvaged fence wood in my shed
I was just stacking up leftover redwood and cedar from the last two years of fence jobs (I always pull the reusable stuff before demo) and realized I have exactly 300 board feet sitting there. That's like $900 worth of lumber if I bought it new, all just sitting because I can't figure out what to build. Anyone else hoard perfectly good scrap until it becomes a problem?

300 board feet is exactly the point where I start thinking about building a privacy screen or a small shed from scratch, but redwood and cedar are too nice for that. Last summer I built a couple of planter boxes for a neighbor out of the same stuff and it rotted in two seasons because I didn't seal the ends. You might want to sort it by species and condition first, because mixing dry redwood with wet cedar in a project will warp everything in a year.

Guilty of the same mistake with a birdhouse. Wood rot waits for no one.
