inA warning about that 'rare' plant you bought online
My fiddle leaf fig had those same white dots last year and I just wiped them off with a damp cloth every few days. They never came back, so maybe it's not always a full scale invasion like @ruby_murphy describes. I get the quarantine idea, but two whole weeks of preventative spraying seems like a lot of work for a problem I might not even have.

inRemembering how my dad used to fix a squeaky floor with a single nail, but my attempt to silence one in my 1950s bungalow turned into a three-week project of pulling up boards and shimming joists.
Should've just nailed it down like your dad.

inMy bullet journal hit 500 pages and it made me think about digital vs paper
@morgan.adam gets it, digital just isn't the same.

inI thought the whole 'petrified wood' thing at roadside stands was a tourist trap
Oh man, @the_ryan is totally right about the gentle approach. It's like how the best fix for most things is just the simplest one. You see it everywhere. Like polishing a scratched table with just oil and a cloth, or getting a stain out with plain soap before any fancy spray. We always reach for the heavy-duty stuff first, but half the time the basic, careful method works better and doesn't ruin what you're trying to save.

inMy sourdough starter completely collapsed after I moved it to a new spot in my kitchen
Looking at it wrong" is perfect, @leoward. My buddy Dave had a shelf he built that was like that. One day he just sighed at it a little too hard and the whole thing gave up. It wasn't even a loud sigh. We just heard a crack and watched his vinyl collection slide slowly to the floor. He stood there staring at the pile for a full minute.
