My door trim cuts were a disaster until this simple tool saved the day...
I kept messing up the cuts around door frames on a laminate job last Tuesday. Someone on site handed me a contour gauge to trace the shape. It worked like a charm and the piece slid right in. Why have I been eyeballing it for years? Now I tell everyone to give it a try.

Calling it a 'charm' is a bit much for a tool that just copies a shape. the_diana's question about moving the trace to the laminate shows it's not so simple. Honestly, a good eye and a careful cut usually get it done.

That contour gauge to trace the shape sounds handy, but how do you transfer the traced shape to the laminate?

A carpenter I know just puts the traced shape right on the board and cuts along the line.
