PSA: My old iPod just hit 10,000 songs and I'm shocked it still works

I was syncing it to my old Windows XP desktop, the one I keep in the garage, and the number popped up on the screen. I've been adding a few albums every month since 2005, mostly from CDs I ripped myself. Honestly, I thought the hard drive would have given up years ago. Has anyone else kept a gadget running this long with daily use?

What model iPod do you have? My old 5th gen from 2006 is still kicking too. I replaced the battery a few years back and swapped the hard drive for a compact flash card, which made it feel brand new. That thing has outlasted three of my phones.

Oh man, @lucas_grant83, that's awesome you did the flash mod! I just read a whole forum thread about people doing that to keep their old iPods alive. It's crazy how tough those 5th gens are. My friend still uses his for long trips because he says the battery life is unreal after a swap. Makes me want to dig mine out of a drawer and see if it still works.
