Getting a lien on my house from a contractor who never finished the job
I hired a guy to redo my bathroom in Portland last fall, paid him half up front, and he walked off the job after two weeks. A few months later, I got a notice in the mail saying he'd filed a $4,000 lien against my house for 'materials.' I had to hire a lawyer to file a motion to remove it, which cost me another grand. Has anyone else had to fight a bogus contractor's lien, and how did you prove it was wrong?

How do these guys even get away with that? Honestly, it's a total scam to file for materials they never bought. You did the right thing getting a lawyer, even though it cost more.

Totally a scam, you nailed it. I had a contractor try the same thing with "materials fees" for lumber that never showed up on site. The invoice looked legit but it was all fake. I had to threaten small claims court just to get them to back down. It's crazy how common this stuff is.
