PSA: Getting a simple will done took me over 4 months and a ton of back and forth

Honestly, I figured making a basic will would be a quick thing. I just wanted to leave my stuff to my sister and name a guardian for my dog. I used an online service to start, but then I got stuck on the 'digital assets' part for weeks because I have crypto. My lawyer friend said to just list it generally, but the service kept flagging it as incomplete. I finally had to pay a local lawyer in Austin $500 to sort it out, and even that took three meetings. On one side, you have people saying DIY is fine for simple cases. On the other, my experience says a small mistake can drag things out forever. Has anyone else hit a weird snag like that with what should have been a simple legal form?

Man, the whole "simple will" thing is a total trap. They make it sound like a ten minute online quiz, but then you're down a rabbit hole trying to explain your NFT of a cartoon ape to a legal document from 1987. Of course it flagged your crypto, the software probably still thinks Google is a new search engine. I spent two months arguing with a form over who gets my vinyl collection because it didn't like my cousin's nickname.

Exactly! Those forms have no idea how to handle modern digital stuff. My friend's will almost left his gaming accounts to his ex because the dropdown menu only had "spouse" or "parent".
