inTIL my cheap drip machine actually makes a decent cup after I started weighing the beans
Remember my buddy who kept buying new gear for his coffee? He finally got a scale, and his next batch was the best he's ever made. Felt like a total idiot for not doing it sooner.

inI finally got a call from a client about a missing detail on a site plan for a house in Bend
Oh man, that reminds me of when I helped my buddy build a deck! We got all the posts set and the frame looked perfect, then realized we'd totally blocked the only path to the backyard grill. Had to pull up three boards right at the end. That "big picture" tunnel vision is so real, you just miss the obvious stuff.

inTried a big home energy audit and my power bill went up, not down
Sealing can make it work harder if the system's now too big for the space, Paul. A fridge set too low does add heat though.

inMy bike computer ticked over 42,000 km this morning on the way into Vancouver.
Wait, you did that just to avoid bridge traffic? That's the part that gets me. You started with such a simple, everyday goal and ended up pedaling around the whole planet. It makes my own commute look like a trip to the corner store. It's crazy how those small choices add up into something that huge without you even planning it.

inMy grandma's cornbread recipe calls for a cup of buttermilk, but I've seen three friends this month swap it for regular milk and wonder why theirs is dry.
Oh man, @xena_jackson, that's the perfect way to describe so many first tries. It feels like we all have to make that one terrible version of something before we get it right. The road to decent cornbread is paved with hockey pucks.
