Overhearing a debate about album covers in line at the post office
It got me thinking about how personal taste shapes what we call good design.

Never liked the White Album cover until I saw it framed.

Heard someone say the White Album cover is all about context, like how a plain wall needs a picture frame. I always passed it by thinking it was just a boring white square. Then I read a blog post about how the designer wanted it to feel special and clean. Seeing it framed probably gives it that weight, like it's a piece of art you should pay attention to. It makes me want to go look at my own records in a different way now.

The White Album sold over 10 million copies with that basic cover. But does slapping it in a frame really make it art? @angelajohnson, I get why you'd say that, but it still looks like a plain white square to me. Maybe we're just overthinking a piece of cardboard.
