After my friend's band got snubbed by blogs, I'm done with them

I've been into indie music for a long time, and it's frustrating to see blogs only cover bands that are already popular. My buddy's band worked hard on their new record, but when we reached out to blogs, they all said it wasn't 'hot' enough. We tried ten different sites, and not one gave them a listen. It's like these blogs have forgotten their role in building the scene. They should be helping new voices get heard, not just riding waves. Back in the day, you could count on blogs to find cool stuff before it blew up. Now, if you're not on some playlist or trending, you're invisible. It's killing the spirit of indie music, where discovery used to be key.

Ugh, we just pitched playlist curators instead.

Think about how this chase changes the music itself. When artists tailor songs for playlist slots, they might avoid risks. That means we get more of the same sound everywhere. Curators pick what fits their existing lists, not what's new or different. Over time, this hurts creativity and makes discovery boring. Artists waste energy on fitting in instead of standing out.

Was it one of those pitches where you just know it's going into a black hole? I sent a batch to some curators last month and one guy wrote back asking if we could add his cousin's band to our next release... like, what? @umaf20, it feels like half these curators are just trying to swap favors instead of actually listening. Made me wonder if the whole system is broken. Now I'm hesitant to even try unless I have a personal connection. Sort of takes the wind out of your sails, you know?

Seriously? That's so frustrating. The whole thing feels scammy sometimes. Total waste of energy.
