inFound a weird fix for a laptop that wouldn't boot past the BIOS splash
My old laptop needed a similar exorcism to finally wake up.

inRant: My bathroom vent fan took 4 hours to replace because the old housing was glued in with construction adhesive.
It's the same energy as furniture that needs an allen wrench nobody owns. Or a phone case designed to shatter if you try to remove it. Modern stuff is built with zero thought for future fixes. They want you to just give up and buy a whole new unit instead. Planned frustration is a real business model now.

inUnpopular opinion: I think the old-school rubberized lens hoods from the 80s are actually better for impact protection than modern plastic ones.
Wait, are you sure it's the rubber itself? I've seen those old hoods survive because they're often a thin rubber sleeve over a plastic core. The rubber just bends on impact instead of cracking. A solid rubber hood would be too heavy and floppy. The real test would be comparing a modern plastic hood to an old all-plastic one from that era.

inI was in a barber shop in Austin last weekend and saw the owner using a small, clear plastic binder sleeve for his clipper guards
That's a pretty clever hack for keeping them clean.

inCan we talk about those cheap knee kickers from Harbor Freight?
Harbor Freight tools are basically a gamble you pay for upfront. You might get lucky, but you're often just buying the problem twice when it breaks. That "good deal" cost you way more than the sticker price.
