Hired a cheap SEO shop for my dad's shop in Boise and 3 months later our calls dropped
So my dad runs a small HVAC shop in Boise and back in January he wanted to try one of those budget SEO places, the kind that promises page one in 90 days for like $400 a month. I set up the account, gave them access to the site, and let it ride because honestly I do not know much about this stuff. About 6 weeks in I noticed our Google Business profile had the wrong hours listed and a random suite number that was not ours. I emailed the rep, got a reply that said "we will look into it", and then heard nothing for 9 days. When I finally checked Search Console myself, they had stuffed the same keyword into every page title and built like 40 spammy links from random directories. Our calls went from around 22 a month to 9, and one regular customer told me she almost called someone else because the map pin showed us in the wrong part of town. I pulled the plug, fixed the listing myself, and spent a month undoing the junk links. Anyone here know a good way to vet an agency before you hand over the keys, or is it just asking for references and hoping for the best?
