I actually prefer the small agency over the big name firm now

I hired a 3 person agency in Austin to handle my paid ads after a $2k/month retainer at a major shop got me nothing but generic reports. They tripled my conversion rate in 2 months by actually answering my calls. Has anyone else dumped a big agency for a smaller one and seen better results?

Right, and then the big firm sends you a "strategic overview" that's basically just a pie chart of your own spending. It's like paying someone to tell you that you're spending money, which you already knew. My buddy's small shop actually called him on a Saturday because a Facebook update broke his targeting, the wild stuff. Meanwhile, the big agency probably has a 48 hour ticket system just to ask if you can change your ad copy. Sometimes bigger really does mean slower and more useless, especially when you're just a number in their spreadsheet.

48 hours is generous honestly. One big firm I worked with had a 72 hour SLA just to pause a campaign that was burning budget on a broken link. Your buddy's small shop sounds like a lifesaver in comparison.
