Pulled the plug on a content agency after their 4th miss

I was sitting in a coffee shop on State Street reviewing their latest blog draft and it read like a robot with a thesaurus, nothing matched our voice or the brief. I canceled the contract right there, ate the $2,500 deposit, and now I'm wondering if anyone has had luck hiring a solo freelancer instead of a full agency for ongoing SEO content?

Three agencies in a row missed deadlines for me before I tried a solo writer, and the first draft still needed heavy edits. A good freelancer can match your voice if you give them a solid style guide and pay for a test post before signing anything long term. The real issue is usually the brief, not the size of the team, so maybe tighten that up before you blame the vendor.
