That conversation with a former client made me question our whole reporting process

Ran into a client I hadn't worked with in 6 months at a coffee shop in Austin, and she mentioned how our weekly reports just felt like data noise to her team. She said they stopped reading them after week 3 because nothing tied back to their actual goals. Has anyone else had clients admit the reports are just getting ignored?

I had a client once tell me they printed out my beautiful 12 page report every Friday and used the blank backsides for their kids' grocery list drawings. That was year 2 of doing that report. I asked them flat out what they actually needed and they said "three numbers max and a sentence about whether we should panic or not." I slimmed it down to a single page with a red yellow green light at the top and a notes section. They started reading it again. Sometimes we get so stuck in what we think looks professional that we forget to ask if anyone even cares.

Dang, grocery list paper? That is BRUTAL. I can't believe you kept sending that thing for TWO years.
